Safeguarding at St Anne's Catholic Primary School

St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. To keep children safe in education you have to “allow yourself to think the unthinkable.”

The St. Anne’s Safeguarding team is; Mrs Sadie (Head of School), Mrs Larcher (Deputy Head and Key Stage One Manager) and Mrs Turner (Deputy Head and Key Stage Two Manager)

Our safeguarding governor is Rose-Anne Rumpus who can be contacted via the school office.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children's health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best

Safeguarding children and child protection guidance and legislation applies to all children up to the age of 18.

What is Child Protection?

Child Protection is part of Safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

At St. Anne’s we understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. To achieve our safeguarding commitment, we will ensure continuous development and improvement of robust safeguarding processes and procedures that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our staff, governors and volunteers.

The school has a Safeguarding Policy, which explains how the school deals with child protection concerns, including allegations about the behaviour of members of staff. All members of staff, including teaching and support staff receive annual safeguarding training and updates throughout the year. The school has rigorous safeguarding procedures in place which all staff (including regular volunteers and Governors) must follow. We also ensure that we follow the statutory guidance set out in the DFE document, “Keeping Children Safe in Education” including the Prevent Strategy, FGM, Mental Health, up skirting, Peer on Peer abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation.

We work with an array of agencies including Children Services, the School Nurse, Early Help and the police.
